Roatan is home to two expat communities. I live in West End. It's a thriving town full of dive shops, bars, hotels, restaurants and a few small grocery stores (all within a 10-15 minute walk). West Bay is a bit more upscale and has some higher end resorts (dive shops, bars and restaurants are also in abundance). The two towns are about 10 minutes apart by car, and both are 20-25 minutes by car from the airport.
While there are plenty of hotels, I also recommend looking at AirBNB (especially for larger parties). Let me know if you'd like a "local's take" on any places before booking.
Also, be advised there aren't any street names or numbers here. But, I can help!
Hotel in West End with THE BEST lobby you've ever sunbathed in, just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of West End's main business district. Lands End also has a full-service restaurant, bar, infinity pool, sunset views and the island's cutest puppy. I live around the corner so some days, this is my team's conference room.
With a high level of hands-on attention, this dive shop on Turtle Beach (between West End and West Bay) is great for groups who want to be able to set their course according to their own interests and unique needs. Women-owned and run!!
My former instructors, colleagues and friends run this new West End shop (across the street from SunDowners bar, next to the Argentinian Grill). I literally trust them with my life. And, my gear when it gets stranded here (due to hangovers or pandemics). Tell them I sent ya!
